Distribution

Currently, the white stork is widespread in the lowlands and foothill areas throughout the country. It avoids vast and dense forests and high mountains. The gradient of occurrence decreases from the northeast to the south and southwest (Tomiałojć & Stawarczyk 2003, Guziak & Jakubiec 2006).

The valleys of the biggest rivers located in north-eastern Poland, outside the Warmińska Refuge, approx. 800 pairs (Wilk et al. 2010, Zbyryt et al. 2014), are among the places inhabited by a significant part of the national population of this species (approx. 2000 pairs).
